18 OCT 08 PFNISTER, SCHAEFFER AND KNIGHTON CAPTURE AFSC WINS AT SPEEDWORLD The unseasonably warn weather made track conditions questionable for Arizona’s Fastest Street Cars racers with most trying to hook-up on small DOT tires. With temperatures in the low one hundred range and track temps pushing the high 130 degree mark, traction was the main concern for all racers. October 18th was our 6th race of the 2008 season and not even the hot temps could not keep AFSC racers away with 35 racers ready to battle it out in our three race classes, Outlaw Street, True Street, and Easy Street. With AFSC going back to day races the spectator count was low but still exciting for those that did attend. BoDoc Transmissions and Priority Fabrication stepped up to the plate and sponsored this race with $2500 worth of chassis work going to the winner of Easy Street and $1500 worth of chassis work going to both True Street and Outlaw Street winners. Our other Race Sponsors bumped up the payouts for all three classes. These Sponsors include: UTI, Arizona Differential, Chucks Speed and RV Center, All Jacked-Up, Standard Machine, WALLACE Motorsports, Hughes Performance, AZ Dyno Chip, Big Bell KIA, BG Products, Clear Bra. AFSC thanks them all dearly for their contributions enabling us to pay back to the semi rounds in all three classes. The fans enjoyed some great racing in all three classes throughout the day. In Easy Street with an Index of 11.50 the newest and largest class saw some veteran Speedworld racers as well as newcomers. In the semi-finals we saw team Speedworld racer Andrew Williams in his Chevy II wagon be defeated by a new AFSC racer, Jeff Knighton in his 78 Ford Fairmont. The other pair of racers to face off in the semi-finals was long time AFSC member and birthday boy Mark Haller in his 85 Camaro up against AFSC member Greg Dix in his 87 Buick Regal. Greg had the quicker but losing time of an 11.62 giving Haller the victory by way of reaction time. The final round would be a Ford against Chevy race and once again was decided by the racers reaction time with Jeff Knighton running a slower but winning E.T. 11.64 at 114mph to Hallers 11.57 at 118mph. True Street racers were giving it all they had to even get close to their 10.00 Index. The race was all AFSC member Dave Welker’s if only he would not have went red against Paul Lorton driving the WALLACE Motorsports 79 Mercury Capri entry in the first round. Scott Schaeffer driving his 86 Grand National defeated Tibor Kadar in his 67 GTO by running a quicker 10.38 to Tibors 10.63 E.T. Paul Lorton was the lucky racer being drawn as the Bye for that semi-final round. Paul Lorton was having traction issues all day long and knew the only way he would have a chance to beat Scott Scahaeffer in the final was to cut a good light. Unfortunately Paul went red by a mere .001 giving the win to Scott, which ran 10.47 at 127mph. Outlaw saw some great competition with Dee Pfnister’s 69 Camaro running the quickest E.T of an 8.12 against Travis Wallace in the second round. Dee got drawn as the bye for the semi-final round leaving Jason Collins and Vic Brum to battle for that final round. Jason driving Richard Shelly’s 78 Malibu pulling a .047 reaction time which was the deciding factor for him getting the win light with a slower 8.80 to Brum’s 8.76 E.T. This set the final round of Pfnister and Collins to decide how would be crowned event champion. Collins and his crew chief Seth Polvadore went to work setting the Malibu on kill. Collins with the better reaction time set his car on the back bumper for over 100 feet and as he came down saw Dee Pfnister racing for the finish line as he pulled to the side of the track. Dee ran a 8.15 at 177mph in that final round. Congratulations to our Winners; Jeff Knighton, Scott Scheaffer and Dee Pfnister. Thanks to the Speedworld Dragstrip staff who make it possible for all our racers to have fun and be safe place to drag race and to all the great fans that showed their support for our AFSC Event. Special thanks to all our sponsors for their support, UTI the Official Technical School of Arizona’s Fastest Street Cars, Big Kia, Hughes Performance, Chuck’s Speed and R.V. 2007 SEASON 1 JAN 2007 Our third event saw the largest field of cars to date. We had nineteen cars and awesome weather with a track that was working great on both lanes. We saw new entries on Monday from Buick Grand Nationals to big block powered Chevy II's to Nova's, El-camino's, 57 Chevy's, Small block and big block powered Chevelles. We saw awesome wheelstands from Brian Manski's small block powered Camaro, Jim Rivera's small block powered 55 and Josh Edwards big block powered Nova. It was Brian Manski and Jeff thompson marchin thru the field to meet in the final. When the dust settled it was Brian's small block Camaro taking the win over Jeff's big block Camaro as the winner of our shoot-out. CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS
31 MAR 2007 Our fourth event was the debut of our newTrue Street (DOT) class along with our Outlaw class. We had thirty cars entered to battle our two classes. It was a great start to the True Street class which was an awesome class to watch all the way down to the semis where Travis Wallace and Jeff Stout battle it to the stripe and both breaking out. The beautiful Turbo Grand National of Jan Moeller came out on top as our first True Street DOT winner. Outlaw had an exiting non-lift a thon all the way thru. There were new cars along with new faces to enjoy our racing. Don's Chevelle worked its way thru the field all the way to the final where he met Jeff Thompson, three time finalist in our last three races. It was the race of the night as it was definitely clear neither was going to lift! No disappointments....both cars hauled ass for the finish and in the end it was Jeff's Camaro that crossed the line first in a close race. Congrats to Jan Moeller and Jeff Thompson as our winners. I also want to mention a very special thanks to Tim and Donny from WCHRA in supporting our event., they truly are "Racers for Racers".
